A Streamside Management Zone (SMZ) is required alongside intermittent streams, perennial streams, and perennial bodies of water. This SMZ requirement is described within rule .0201 of the FPG’s and applies across the entire state of North Carolina at all time. Timber may be harvested from within the SMZ under certain restrictions.
