Is a seating plan appropriate at an informal wedding reception?

I would like to see tables and chairs for at least 120 people. That way the guests will be able to group themselves as they wish. Nobody will have to sit alone with people they don’t know just because a group is occupying most of a table and there are no other seats. My experience along these lines has been with church suppers. Families or couples usually want to sit together. If the seating is too tight, that’s not always possible. Smaller tables for four or six would be nicer than great long tables with benches, but it all depends on what the pub can provide.
