Is a school required to give a parent written notice when a student is suspended from school?
YES. If a child is suspended from school, schools are obligated to notify the parent, and in most school systems, this notification is required to be in writing. Many times schools will send home suspension notices with the child. This is not the best practice if (1) the school has not already notified the parent, or (2) the suspended child is one who will not likely inform the parent. If your child is suspended and you are not notified in writing, seek legal advice.
