Is a reception halls referral a good recommendation?

0

Our Answer: Not always, many times halls have a “paid referral” program where they get a “finder’s fee” if a company is booked by a referral from the hall. Sometimes it’s not even the banquet hall that initiates this arrangement, many times it’s the DJ Agency that solicits the arrangement. Is it illegal? No. But if a banquet hall gives you a list of DJs or other vendors and mention that they “prefer” these vendors for their facility, ask them if they have a rule against your brother doing the DJ’ing. If they say no, then feel free to keep your options open as to whom you hire for your event. Referrals are a revenue stream for many banquet halls and like most revenue streams, they can be bought for the right price. And wouldn’t you rather steer clear of the bad DJ companies that the banquet hall knows of anyway? No one pays for those kinds of referrals!
