Is a psychological evaluation necessary to determine eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services?
A psychological evaluation is not always necessary to determine eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services. However, if available, it is very useful in expediting the eligibility determination and vocational planning. While the disability classification as indicated on the IEP documents the presence of a disability, it is insufficient for determining if the student meets the remaining criteria for vocational rehabilitation eligibility. Further information is needed that tells how the disability impairs the student s employability in substantial ways. Additional evaluation reports from the school become especially important when the Present Levels of Educational Performance on the IEP are insufficiently explanatory regarding student abilities and functional limitations in terms of employment. School officials will transmit this material and any other relevant information that can be used to determine an individual’s eligibility for VESID services. VESID vocational rehabilitation
