Is a pet Guinea pig harmful to a pregnant person???
I have never heard of a guinea pig causing harm to a pregnant woman. People also blow the cat litter issue out of proportion (the feces of cats who are outside and/or eat raw meat are the only ones who MIGHT pose a problem). I’m not saying your daughter shouldn’t be careful; she should use gloves and wash her hands before and after handling the animal if she’s unsure. She should also make her son more active in helping take care of the pet. I would think that would be fun for a child. Most of all, if she’s at all concerned, she should talk to her vet about this, as he or she will have the most accurate information. In all honesty, I say that your daughter faces more danger from ignorant people in the course of her pregnancy. I am appalled at the amount of people who have no qualms about smoking around a pregnant woman, or all the unsafe drivers who are in a huge hurry, etc. The guinea pig is the least of your worries, trust me.
