Is a pedometer accurate when jogging?
They can be accurate but you have to adjust the settings over time to get them like that. Measure a mile in a car and run there and back – so you cover 2 mile and see what the pedometer says – adjust it to make it read right over the 2 miles (you might need to run a few times to check). You can do a couple of trial runs in a training session to adjust it with a 2 mile run rather than a longer run. Now try a longer run and measure it with the car afterwards – your pedometer will be nearly there and you can adjust it again. What you will find is that you can get it accurate for a certain terrain (road running, cross country…) and for a similar running speed – faster and you take different stride lengths to jog or walk. Oh, and your can speedometer might not be 100% accurate and there will be the effect of you not running exactly where the car went. But you can get it more accurate. Maybe set your stride to 1m ( = 12.3 / 8.8 x 0.76) for running – the 0.76 might be for walking. Joggers n
