Is a PC or computer network required to do VoIP?
a. Well a very small business with one, maybe two phone lines can use existing analog handsets with Analog Terminal Adapters a.k.a. VoIP ATA. In this case a computer would not necessarily be required. Larger businesses can avoid computer based deployments by using virtual or hosted PBX. Otherwise, we’re looking at buying or leasing PBX equipment that is basically a big computer designed to make and receive phone calls.
