Is a new chapter in the classic world of Winnie the Pooh really necessary?
Winnie the Pooh purists, happy with the books written by author A.A. Milne in the 1920s about a boy and his bear, are about to get a rude awakening. This week, Return to the Hundred Acre Wood, the first authorized sequel to the A.A. Milne classic, hits bookstores. The last Winnie the Pooh book was published more than 80 years ago. Not much has changed around the Hundred Acre Wood, insists David Benedictus, the British writer commissioned to continue the adventures of Christopher Robin and his ragtag posse of animals. Yes, an otter named Lottie has been added to the mix, but things stay basically the same. The stories revolve around timeless activities like playing cricket, baking a cake, having a spelling bee — and no doubt the pursuit of honey. Will you be buying … or will you say “Oh Bother!”?
