Is a Near Earth Object likely to cause mass destruction in the forseeable future?
Will a near earth object cause mass destruction? Well that depends on it size, composition and how near to the earth is passes. There is one asteroid/meteorite, ‘Apophis’ that will pass close to the earth in 2029, and again in 2036. Its proximity to Earth in 2029, will determine if it will collide with earth in 2036, which is considered now unlikely. However, it was predicted that if it was to pass close enough to the earth it would affect the weather system. And that earths gravity would ultimately change its course bringing it even closer or impacting with the Earth as was thought in the early predictions.
