Is a lower drinking age for college campuses a good idea?
Lowering the drinking age is a double edged sword. Younger people will have more access to liquor, and often don’t have the maturity to control their actions and their drinking when in a group of other young people. On the other side of the argument, when young people who aren’t old enough to drink are able to get access to liquor, they often consume a large amount in a short time because it is forbidden, and there is often a fear of getting caught. The consumption of large amounts of liquor in a short time can lead to alcohol poisoning as the young person doesn’t feel the effects until they have already consumed alot of liquor. Police are divided on the issue. They don’t like targetting young people, and often end up involved in fights and foot chases with young people who are only running or fighting because they don’t want to be charged with drinking underage.
