There is the growing popularity of the High Protein Diets. Do they work and are they really safe? Sure you will lose weight on a high protein diet but most of it is in the form of water. The more protein you eat the more water you need to eliminate the waste products from protein. On a high protein diet the body will draw this water from its cells causing a temporary weight loss. Excess Protein is converted to fat and stored in the body while the nitrogen is excreted through the kidneys as urea. The more protein you consume, the more your kidneys need to work to do this process. Excess protein in your diet will also steal calcium from your bones which leads to osteoporosis.
