Is a GoogleApps@UIC account a Google account?
No. The services are provided by Google, yes. And Google is responsible for storing your email and documents and so on. But the GoogleApps@UIC accounts are generated and managed by the ACCC. If you only use the Web interface, Google will not ever see your ACCC Common password. (If you use a personal computer email program or a smart phone to do your mail, then you will be giving your password to Google directly.) You should think of Google as being the server for your GoogleApps@UIC account. In summary, GoogleApps@UIC accounts are just like any other ACCC email account and are approved by the University for University work, subject to the GoogleApps@UIC Terms Of Service agreement. (Faculty, staff, and students doing sensitive work should pay particular attention to point 5 of the Terms of Service.)
