Is a goat a male sheep?
A goat (Capra hircus) and a sheep (Ovis aries) are different species. A male goat is a billy, a female is a nanny, and a baby is a kid. A male sheep is a ram, a female is a ewe, and a baby is a lamb. You’re mistaken with your poultry – chicken is the name of the species, regardless of sex. A male chicken is a rooster or cockerel, a female chicken is a hen, and a baby chicken is a chick. C0ck and hen are common terms for the male and female of many birds, but some have species-specific terms – e.g. cob and pen for swans, drake and duck for ducks, gander and goose for geese, tiercel and falcon for peregrines, etc. Jaunty is incorrect about turkeys – a male turkey is called a tom.
