Is a glass lens better than a plastic lens?
Not necessarily, it really comes down to a matter of personal choice. Both types of lenses can provide superior optical qualities to improve low vision conditions or normal eye conditions. Glass lenses normally allow more light to transmit through the magnifier as compared to the acrylic lenses; however, the acrylic magnifying lenses produced today removes most of this bias. Both types of lenses have outstanding optical qualities: The glass lens is more scratch resistant and heavier. The acrylic lens is lighter and not as prone to breakage.
