Is a dwarf apple tree better than other apple trees?
Generally speaking, yes. They take up less space, yet yield full size fruit and do so in less time. A full sized apple tree may take up to 10 years to mature and bear fruit, whereas a dwarf may only take 2-3 years. You can also plant multiple varieties in the same amount of space. I won’t even go into details about the tedious task of pruning a 40 foot tree versus a 10 foot one. The smaller size also makes dwarves easier to maintain and ‘train’. You also will have less damaged fruit since the distance from branch to ground is significantly reduced. For cost effectiveness, and host of other now obvious reasons, a dwarf apple tree is a far better choice than a traditional one. – www.audioditions.
