In order to be able to rent a car in South Africa you will need an international driver’s license. International drivers licenses are mainly used in countries where the police can not read English or Dutch. South African residents can read both. You can obtain an International drivers license at your local ANWB office. The cost of such a license is € 13,-, remember to take an official passport photo with you. The drivers license is valid for one year from the date of issue.
