Guidance: No. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations do not require a drug or alcohol test when renewing the medical certificate. Furthermore, before performing an alcohol or controlled substances test under these regulations, each employer shall notify a driver that the alcohol or controlled substances test is required by the regulations. No employer shall falsely represent that a test is administered under this part.
