To get in to Canada, by car, you will probably get in with your Drivers License with no problem, esp. for a day trip. It is getting back into the U.S. where you need proof of citizenship. Since you don’t have that, if the car is registered in your name, you shouldn’t have too much trouble. You might get scolded and told to get a passport or carry your birth certificate. Note: Social Security Card cannot be used for identification purposes or proof of citizenship. The law requiring passports for land and sea travel go into effect Jan 2008 or later (no date set yet). Passports are needed at present for air travel. http://travel.state.
