Is a DNS (Domain Name Server) required in order to utilize TCP/IP with Pervasive PSQL?
No, but if you don’t have a DNS on your system, you must use a HOSTS file on your client so that the server can be found. Without this, you may receive errors such as 3111. TCP, using a name, translates that name into an IP address. If some mechanism is not in place to translate the name, the IP address cannot be found. A HOSTS file is a Windows system text file on your PC that contains information to translate the name to an IP address.
