Is a diamond a giant lattice that conducts electricity when it is a solid?
A diamond is separated into type 1a+b and type 2a+b. Type 1a diamonds have nitron atoms scattered in the crystal lattice, unevenly. This is where you have a diamond ranging from being near colorless (G-I range on the GIA color scale) all the way down to light yellow (S-Z). The 1b diamonds have nitrogen as well, but it is spread evenly in the lattice creating what is called a canary diamond (fancy color) Now type 1 diamond will not conduct electricity, and neither will type 2a (the diamonds that might range from greyish to purple). However, type 2b diamonds that are naturally blue, are conductors of electricity. In conclusion, most diamonds don’t conduct electricity but natural blue diamonds do.
