It is nothing more than a tax on the motorist again. Why the hell Manchester thinks it needs a congestion charge is beyond me. Do the smug simpletons in the town hall want people to come to Manchester to shop and work or do they want to turn the city centre into a dump of rotting buildings, bomb sites like the Oldham Road. Their best bird- brained idea was turning Corporation Street into a buses only lane with bus activated bollards. Oh, the fun one can have watching a car driver waiting for a bus to pass to lower the bollards and then race in after it only to be impaled on the rising bollards. The dopes in the town hall tried at one point to ban buses from the city centre because gormless pedestrians were walking down Market Street and crossing over the road without looking and getting hit by a bus. If you had just started your shift as a bus driver, it was quite a good way to spend the next 4 hours with the Police filling in accident report forms. It beat driving the number 17 to Roc
