IS A COLD ENGINE DIFFERENT FROM A HOT ENGINE?

0

You bet! When the engine is cold, the oil is thicker. As oil pressure builds, it’s possible for the popoff valve to open and for unfiltered oil to be pumped up to the top end (this is most common with paper or brass oil filters). As soon as the oil makes a trip around the engine, it warms up, the pop-off valve fully closes and debris filtration resumes once again.
