Is a Belgian Malinois like a german shepherd???

Belgian Malinois are what German Shepherds used to look at act like. Much thinner and lankier, but faster. The German Shepherd has slowly bulked up weight wise yet (working line GSD) still maintain their drive for work. The Americanized and show line GSD’s aren’t anything like “real” GSD’s or Malinois. The Malinois is slowly taking over the police dog sector because there are so many shoddy GSD breeders and not enough who stay true to the dog’s true working ability whereas most Malinois breeders breed with work in mind. And yes, they’re a lot alike, medium sized herding dogs capable of doing nearly every job any dog can do. Especially protection/police style work!

They do look a lot alike, but Malinois are becoming more popular as working dogs. They are a bit smaller in size and their head and ears are shaped a bit different. They’re smaller and lighter than Shepherds which makes them quicker and more agile. They also generally have more energy. When my ex-husband and I were married he had one for his police dog. The dog is retired now as a working dog, but he’s still a pet. He’s amazingly smart and surprisingly friendly.considering that he was trained for police work. I’ve known of people that have had them purely as pets and they seem to favor them over Shepherds due to their smaller size.
