Is a Barium Enema test uncomfortable?
You will be asked to lie on an x-ray table while an enema is gently inserted into your rectum. This is connected to a bag containing the liquid barium. As it flows into your colon, you may feel some discomfort – most likely fullness and pressure. The table is slightly tipped to get different views while the x-ray pictures are taken, and you may be asked to change positions. After you are finished, you will be able to go to the bathroom.
