Is a 5mw green laser bad can it burn things?
The previous poster is extremely wrong. You can not compare a laser’s power to a light bulb. A 5mW is a fairly powerful laser pointer. It can do damage to your eye if you point it at your eye and hold it there for a prolonged period of time. It can not, however, burn anything (unless you focused it very well with a lens). I work with laser beams at about 500mW, so significantly more power than yours. A 500mW laser would blind you instantly and can easily light up a room if you put a card in front of it. But it too, would probably not burn anything. We also have 5 and 10W lasers that hurt quite a bit if you stick your finger in them. They can easily burn a hole in a piece of paper and if you stuck other stuff in the beam and left it there, they would either burn it or heat it up. The reason a light bulb and a laser’s powers are not comparable is a laser power gives the amount of power in the focused beam while a light bulb’s power is the power it takes to run a light bulb.
