Is a .22 rifle a good defence weapon?
The .22 rimfire (rifle, pistol or revolver) is only suitable as a defensive weapon as a last resort, weapon of opportunity. Of course, given certain scenarios the .22 rifle can certainly be advantageous in a defensive situation. If, for example, one must defend a perimeter from marauders (who will seek an easier target if challenged especially from a distance). If its all you have, fine but I would not go out to buy a .22 as my first and only defensive weapon. Especially if you are in the country the .22 Long Rifle is a very utilitarian rifle.
