Is a 1942 U.S. silver dime worth anything?
The coin has little value than its silver content in circulated grades and is worth $4-$5 in the lower mint state grades. That is about what a dealer would pay. There is however a rare 1942 with the 2 over a 1 the value of that coin starts off at $400 in grade good and goes up from there. The 1 shows right up so it is easy to see. If not the rare one then at least you have a piece of history for 1942 was not a good year for America. World War II had just started and we were not doing very good. Men went to war and women started to build tanks and planes. Your coin could have been in a pay envelope for someone building a tank. As time goes by the value will go up, so just hold onto it.
