Is $8 an hour + $3 per hour for each additional child a good rate to chard for babysitting?
I have a home daycare and I charge 15.00 per day per kid. If there is more than one child in a family I offer a discount depending on ages, etc. That is around 2.00 per hour. I think 8 per hour is insanely too much. Especially for my area. People can’t afford that. Also, if you have no ‘real’ experience it is going to be hard to charge the full going rate. For my clients I offer lots of things to ensure that I am very experienced and not a drug dealer, just because my rates aren’t in the get rich quick bracket. I offer once per year, or anytime they want, criminal background and social service checks. Drug testing anytime, paid by parent, and coming into my home at ANY time. There are a lot of things to consider when you care for someone else’s children other than the charge per hour. Look at rates in your area. Check the newspaper for ads and then call the childcare providers and see how much they are charging.
