Is 7th December A date which will live in infamy?
You are probably right that the 7th December 1941, will always be known as a day of infamy. The shock of that sudden attack shook the Americans to the core, and woke the sleeping giant of industry, in to becoming the military powerhouse it has been for the last 67 years. What is probably not known by many is that when the Japanese attacked in 1941, they were using a similar strategy, to that used in the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese war. That of an surprise attack on the enemies main Pacific Fleet base, the Battle ensign flown from the Japanese battleship Mikasa at Tsushima Strait in 1905, was flown from Nagumo’s flagship Akagi during the Pearl Harbour attacks. The 2001 attacks 0n 9/11 will also be a day of infamy, for many years to come.
