Is 144 an alright score for an IQ test?
First I think you need to understand is the underlying concept of the “standardised” IQ test, which is that the score is relevant to your age and the calculated result stays the same as you get older. Basically as you get older your score (mental age) will increase but your actually age also increases so the calculation acts to keep the final IQ score balanced. You need to appreciate that your test result is not a simple “out of 100” type score. It is a timed and supervised score, unlike the test you took, which is then divided by your actual age and multiplied by 100 to arrive at a standardised IQ score. An IQ of 100 means literally that your mental age is equal to your actual age – which is by implication normal or average. Therefore, if a 6 year old has an IQ of 100 they would have scored 6.00 on a test, the IQ calculation would be: 6.00 divided by 6 = 1.00 and then multiplied by 100 = 100. However, if the child had scored 8.64, the IQ calculation would be: 8.64 divided by 6 = 1.44
