The general term “Bone Marrow Transplantation” refers to the transfusion, through a catheter placed in a vein, of blood-forming cells called hematopoietic stem cells. The procedure is called “Stem Cell Transplantation” if the hematopoietic stem cells are collected from the peripheral blood, or “Bone Marrow Transplantation” if the hematopoietic stem cells are collected from the bone.
