INSURANCE COVERAGE…i have a certificate of prior coverage with Blue Cross/Blue Shield… what do i do with it?
If you were covered under a group policy (which you obviously were) then Blue Cross issues you that form. What it means is that if you need to buy health insurance *as an individual* or as part of a small group, that you wouldn’t be subject to a waiting period (sometimes called a ‘coverage exclusion period’ before your new coverage began. Essentially it is saying that because someone else was willing to insure you previously, that you’re a good risk and the next group should accept you without limitation. You may never need to show it, but it’s a good piece of paper to have. Kepps your premiums lower and makes it easier to buy insurance if you are not employed by a group.
