At this time, Cymer has one competitor in the market for DUV light sources for photolithography applications: Gigaphoton, a Japanese joint venture formed in 2000 between two Japanese companies, Komatsu and Ushio. There are two competitors currently working to develop extreme ultraviolet (EUV) sources for next generation lithography. Both are consortia, and one is in Europe, the other in Japan.
