In which currencies does the World Bank offer debt instruments?
World Bank bonds are offered in all major international borrowing currencies. In fiscal year 2008, the World Bank issued debt securities in 19 different currencies. So far, the World Bank has offered investors bonds in 48 different currencies. The objective is to provide investors with a broad choice of currencies. In many instances, this involves opening new markets for bond issuance, thereby promoting local capital market development. While the bulk of borrowing is carried out in major currencies such as the US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen and Pound Sterling, the World Bank frequently issue in many other currencies as well, including those in the Dollar bloc (Australian, New Zealand and Canadian Dollars).
