In what ways is scripted drama student-centred learning?
Students involved in scripted drama have ownership of the learning because they act out the lesson and are experts on the characters they play and the events in which that character is involved. Every Act the Facts script pack contains detailed character cards which give the actors detailed background information on the characters they play. Students as experts: A GCSE History class at South Hunsley School in East Yorkshire was taught Vesalius and the Fabric of the Human Body, (SHP Medicine through Time syllabus), using scripted drama. Students wrote up notes using differentiated worksheets based on the script. They knew the context very well, having acted it out several times, so if they had a question, they were encouraged to ask the person who’d played a particular part to explain their bit of the script to them.
