In what conference will UTSA play?
The plan calls for UTSA to begin play at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS/formerly Division I-AA) level with the intent to advance football and the athletics department’s existing 16 intercollegiate programs to an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS/formerly Division I-A) conference. FBS-level schools include Texas, Texas Tech, UTEP and Houston. Other FCS-level schools include Southland Conference members such as Texas State, Sam Houston St. and Stephen F. Austin. UTSA will play an independent football schedule (not affiliated with any conference) in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
