In what circumstances can a permanent contract end?
A permanent contract may end through resignation, mutual agreement, capability, conduct, normal retirement, redundancy or some other legal or substantial reason. A permanent contract may end on grounds of redundancy: • Where there is no further need for the type of work undertaken by the employee i.e. the research activity or project comes to an end • Where there is a diminishing need for the skills required of the employee • Suitable alternative work is unavailable within the College Requirements for consultation and looking for redeployment opportunities in a redundancy situation apply to both fixed term and permanent staff.
