In Waterlooville why is there no provision for pedestrians and wheelchair users to cross Rockville Drive?
A.As part of the works we did review the wide entrance and exits of the Shell service station forecourt. The southern access was amended slightly by removing the dropped kerb between Shell and CIA to the south. This removed the previous conflict point between the two accesses and pedestrians. However, we were unable to modify the northern access as we were notified by the fire brigade and the police it was required to be this size in case of an emergency. Improvements to aid cyclists, pedestrians and particularly those with restricted mobility and visibility were incorporated into the scheme where feasible. Changes include the toucan crossing on Maurepas Way and the large central island near CIA with points for pedestrians and cyclists to cross London Road. For Rockville Drive we tried to obtain a strip of land from Shell to widen the road and provide a central refuge to aid pedestrians to cross the road.
