In volleyball, what happens when the ball hits the net and doesn go over?
There are several scenarios here. 1) Your team has serve but the ball is served straight into the net. That is a fault as soon as the ball doesn’t go over. Point and serve to other team. 2) The serve (or attack hit) is good but the reception goes into the net. Another player can dig the ball up before it hits the ground and the team can still get the ball over the net within their three touches. 3) The reception is ok but another player puts the ball into the net. Again, if the ball doesn’t touch the ground, you can attempt to play it over with your remaining touch. 4) Your setter puts up a good set but the attacker (on the third touch) mistimes her hit and hits the ball straight into the net. That’s a fault as soon as the ball clearly doesn’t go over as well. Point and serve to the other team. If the ball hits the net and then the ground before a player touches it, then that team loses the point and service. Hope that helped.
