In thinking about language, can educators integrate both whole language and phonics in teaching language acquisition?

In my opinion educators can integrate both whole language and phonics in their teaching of language acquisition. Some students are better off learning the mechanics of the language, while others prefer learning the meanings. However I think most students learn best from a combination of both and that’s why teachers should try to use both approaches in their classrooms.
