In the voltage doubler application, how do you force the output to go to zero during shutdown?

Normally, when the application is shut down using the SD pin, the output voltage drops to the input voltage less a diode drop. Even if the external diode is removed, the internal parasitic diodes will still keep the output at Vin when the part is shut down. The way to get around this problem of output voltage during shutdown is to use an external switch (FET). Place the FET switch either before the input capacitor, or after the output capacitor. This allows for completely cutting off the input voltage or the load and allows the output at the load to fall to 0V.
