First, FAST is not a commercial methodology. It is a simplified methodology that Lonnie and I created for teaching a methodological approach to systems development. We were offered the opportunity to use a couple commercial methodologies; however, it did not take long to realize that full-blown methodologies are far too large and complex for any book or course. So we created FAST, the • Framework for the • Application of • System • Techniques. We plan to improve FAST in each subsequent edition. In fifth edition the methodology and the information system building blocks (Ch.2) will be even more tightly integrated.
