In the tanning bed do you really need to use tanning lotion?
You don’t need to spend a whole lot of money on lotion, but you do need a lotion! The reason being, everyone has dead skin cells laying on top of the skin. These skin cells create an uneven surface. When the UV rays hit the uneven skin surface they reflect the light in an uneven way. The fastest results are achieved when the UV rays go straight through several layers of skin. Lotion use smooths out the dead skin cells on the surface so that UV light can penetrate deeper layers of skin more efficiently. An example of uneven heat and light ray reflection is in sand on the beach. The sand’s uneven surface reflects heat and light in all directions. The sand is only hot on the surface because the heat and light bounce all over before going down deeper. You can find salon quality lotion on-line at about half the price, but even a good moisturizer like Curel is much better than nothing at all. Remember, never burn and always protect your eyes!
