In the sport of bullfighting what is the point of putting spikes in its back ,then killing it at the end.Is this not excessively cruel and be excluded from the sport,or ban bullfighting?
I have never been to a bullfight and never will because I find the entire idea of ritualistic killing distasteful. However, bullfighting is part of the culture in a country that isn’t ours and the only contribution we could make to seeing its demise would be not to attend a bullfight if we were in Spain or Mexico. If you were to suggest to a Spanish aficionado that bullfighting is cruel he would laugh at you and make comparison between the amount of child abuse in your country and his. If you were British he would probably go on to mention the apparent hypocrisy of a nation that has a ROYAL Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and only a NATIONAL Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. EDIT – Sorry, I forgot to answer the question. The spikes are called banderillas and their function is to weaken the bull before the matador takes over for the ultimate stage.
