Probably because it is cheap to buy bulk. There is no reason to buy that crap. It is the 100% the wrong device for the job. Drywall screws are sharp and designed to cut into the paper-like dry wall sheets. However, the screws are brittle, and they are crap for sheer strength. Hell, a good drill can torque off the heads of a drywall screw when trying to screw into 2x4s. Your DDR mat is made out of metal and wood. Use metal and wood screws!
