In the hunter trilogy, why didn Daffy Duck just get a gun and shoot Bugs himself?
• He couldn’t get a license to carry a gun. • Besides, Daffy’s entire goal was self-preservation, not rabbit murder. He wanted the hunters to shoot at Bugs because that would mean they weren’t shooting at Daffy. “Survival of the fittest… and besides, it’s fun!” • Sorta, he sorta gets a little too attached to the “fun” part however, a lot of times Elmer does turn his attention to Bugs instead and naturally fails, at which point Daffy jumps from his hiding place and chastises Elmer for not blowing Bugs’ brains out. He even attempts to assist Elmer and sabotage Bugs’ disguises and pranks on occasion. It seems to not just be about saving his own hide, he wants to best Bugs as well, however perhaps like any true rival he insists on foiling the latter at his own game; wit. In “A Star Is Bored” however he does finally lose his patience with Elmer and snatches the gun from him to deal with Bugs himself (with the expected results). • “It had to be him or me, and obviously it couldn’t be me.”
