In the film Hanssen has a fixation on Catherine Zeta Jones. What was that about?
He said she was the most beautiful woman on the world and he loved those movies. He saw the Mask of Zorro like a hundred times. He was very into her. They [Breach’s producers] called her and obviously got permission. She thought it was kind of weird but funny. Did he ever suspect you? The one time I think maybe is with that PalmPilot, which is a true scene and actually happened [the film shows O’Neill secretly retrieving vital evidence from Hanssen’s PalmPilot, which he has accidentally left in his office]. But I think it may have been more, he’s down there shooting and thinking, “Holy shit, I left that thing up there in the office. If I am under investigation, I’m pretty screwed”. How close is Cooper’s portrayal of Hanssen? It’s very close – Hanssen’s a lot like that. He was a gun nut, sort of walked in a lurch and was humped over. He had a way of looking at you like, “I see right through you, you’re dirt, you’re nothing to me, I’m smarter than you”. He had lots of nerves and energy.
