In Spalding, are parts of speech and other grammar skills practiced in spelling or in writing?
A. Spelling and grammar rules are noted in the spelling notebook during dictation, but all language skills are introduced and practiced in the first part of the writing lesson: sentence construction. While children write Sections A-G in the notebook, they give oral sentences to demonstrate word meaning, and correct use of the spelling words (text p. 74). When they write Section H words, they begin writing sentences and learning that sentences begin with a capital, end with period, question mark, or exclamation mark and have a subject and verb. Teachers use the words in Sections A-G, to teach parts of speech.
