In practice, what is the most common primary entrapment device in gated access systems today?
Since most gate operators are installed as Class I or Class II applications and these applications are the most exposed to general public use, most gate operators today have an inherent entrapment protection system “built in” to the gate control circuitry. These inherent systems detect an obstruction of the gate and meet the primary protection device criteria for all types and classes of gate operators (see chart on previous page). Since these systems are installed in the gate operator by the manufacturer, they are the best way to guarantee that a primary system is present in an installed situation, thus making sure to protect the users, the installing dealer and the vendor from harm.
